Whittlebury’s village hall is called the Reading Room, a title which dates back to the days when its main use was to provide a quiet place for working men of the village to come and read a newspaper!
Today, the Reading Room is open throughout the year for various clubs and community groups, fundraisers such as quiz nights and village fayres, as well as private functions including children’s parties and family celebrations. Every Friday it hosts the popular “HUG” coffee mornings between 10.00am to midday.
The Reading Room has been recently extensively refurbished, creating a large airy space with a wooden floor. A modern kitchen is available for use by hirers and includes a dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, cooker and use of crockery and cutlery.
Next to the Reading Room is the playing field, which provides a play area for suitable for younger children, with a Multi-Use Games Area, for older children. There is a sunny patio with benches overlooking the field.
The Reading Room is available for hire and is an ideal venue for meetings, evening classes, parties, sales and other events. In addition to the main hall there is a meeting room which seats up to 15. New doors exiting onto the patio have been installed with a ramp for wheelchair access.
