We are extremely grateful that The Reading Room’s primary internet connection is provided free of charge by Gigaclear, through their ongoing support for rural communities.
Gigaclear have supplied us with a full-fibre, business-grade 900 Mbps symmetric connection, at no cost to the village. This is an exceptionally high-performance service, delivered directly over their fibre network, and far beyond what most community venues are able to access.
Unlike many providers who advertise high download speeds but offer much slower upload rates, Gigaclear deliver 900 Mbps in both directions. This level of true full-fibre symmetry makes a meaningful difference for modern use — including remote work, video conferencing, online learning, gaming, live streaming, and transferring large files. Even their residential services provide this same balanced performance, helping to bring genuine digital parity to rural areas.
To ensure strong coverage throughout the building, the connection is distributed via a Linksys mesh Wi-Fi system included with the standard service, with nodes in both the main hall and the Kingstone Room. This provides fast, stable internet wherever users are in the Reading Room.
